Dakins of Fairfield Empty Dakins of Fairfield

Post by Admin Sat Nov 10, 2007 9:15 am

I posted a message here last year which was rather obscure as I had little details at the time. I now have more and am still hoping someone out there may be able to help. I am interested in the Dakin family of Fairfield, I now know they lived in what is now known as 'DAKIN COTTAGE' and once at BAILEY FLATTS.

The family is an old an wealthy one but seemed to disappear around 1888/9. They were very influential in the town for many hundreds of years and figure in St Peter's Church history. They were great landowners too. Who bought Dakin Cottage in the late 1800's, who bought the land? Please can anyone help, are there any Dakins left in Buxton or Fairfield with a connection? I know there are some fairly recent grave markers in the churchyard, are the family of one of these people?

Please help, any information would be so welcome, I seem to have come to a bit of a dead end.

Thanks, Jo
